Preparing for mom’s special day

FORTY-FORT, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Mother’s Day is Sunday and local businesses like flower shops and restaurants are preparing for the expected crowds.

Brunch is a common way for most to start their Mothers’s Day celebration. The Canning House in Forty Fort is getting ready for what they call one of their busiest weekends.

“Busy it’s going to be very busy. We start getting reservations for Mother’s Day weekend I would probably say about two months out so we still have a couple we tried to hold onto a few but between our three restaurants it’s gonna be a really busy weekend,” said Natalie Lynn the co-owner of The Canning House.

They will also be offering some special seasonal items and spring-themed drinks such as a lavender honey latte.

“We always try to do something fun, different exciting and take advantage of it being special so we brought in some really amazing tropical fruit some really amazing peak season items. We have a passionfruit curd that’s going on a french toast which is my favorite thing ever,” explained Lynn.

Scattered showers for Mother’s Day weekend

Not too far down the road, those working at Tom Tobin Jr Wholesale Florist in Kingston are putting together arrangements for Mom’s special day.

One employee says this time of year is their peak season.

“I do think it’s busier this year. I don’t remember being able to actually sit and eat lunch so when you can’t eat lunch, you know it’s busy,” added Carre Massaker an employee at Tom Tobin Jr. Wholesale Florist.

Mother’s Day is just one event to keep the flower business blooming this time of year.

“Prom graduations and we do sell in bulk, so a lot of people come in for that too,” continued Massaker.

Tom Tobin Jr Wholesale Florist will be open all weekend for last-minute shoppers and The Canning House is still taking reservations over the phone.
