Pregnant Shawn Johnson Does a One-Handed Handstand & Her Husband’s Reaction Is Everything
Most pregnant women are used to feeling their baby flipping in utero, but how many babies can feel their mom flipping? Not many moms do gymnastics while pregnant (unless you count rolling over in bed, because that is hard work!), but Shawn Johnson isn’t like most moms. At 34 weeks pregnant, she is still doing cartwheels and one-handed handstands — and her husband Andrew East is just as impressed as we are!
“Gymnastics at 34 weeks pregnant,” the former Olympic gold medalist wrote on Instagram this week. In the video, she’s wearing a cozy white onesie over her baby bump. She just casually flips over into a handstand against a wall in her backyard, then picks up one hand to give a thumbs up. She is balancing her entire body (and growing baby!) with one hand, and I’ve never been more amazed.

Her husband screams, “What?!” in reaction, and honestly, same. “No! Who are you?” he responds while walking toward Johnson with a huge “bump” himself. Text on the screen reads, “My husband wore a 25lb pumpkin for empathy.” He’s waddling under the pressure of that pumpkin bump and can’t imagine doing what his wife just did.
“I married a machine,” he added. “She’s a freak of nature, wow!” (Hey sir, just because you’re jealous doesn’t mean you need to resort to name calling!)
It turns out, Johnson isn’t done impressing us. “OK, center of gravity check,” she says at another point in the video before launching into a perfect cartwheel with more ease than it takes me to walk to the bathroom at 34 weeks pregnant.

“What? How’d you do that?” East says. “First of all, that was elite.” Next, East tries to copy Johnson’s moves with his fake bump, and it goes about as well as you’d expect. He gives up on the cartwheel halfway through, leaning on the ground and moaning. Yup!
When he tries the handstand, he actually does manage to get upright — before screaming in pain. He falls over (not even attempting one hand) and laughs saying, “That almost smooshed my skull.” Don’t try this at home, kids!
“Center of gravity is def way different @andrewdeast #parenting #pregnant #gymnastics,” Johnson captioned her hilarious video, adding in the comments: “Maybe some day he’ll acknowledge or understand that I was a decent gymnast 🤣.”
“I just picture the baby going weeeeeeee lol,” one person commented. Someone else wrote, “She pointed her freaking toes too. Once an Olympian, always an Olympian.”
“That one hand up for the nonchalant ‘no problem’ handstand 🔥🔥🔥,” another said.
“Literally couldn’t even tie my own shoes while pregnant 😂,” someone else commented. So true!
Johnson is currently pregnant with baby number three and also shares son Jett, 2, and daughter Drew, 3, with East. She has been doing gymnastics her entire pregnancy. Back in August, she did a perfect handstand on the sidewalk while Jett stood nearby casually drinking from a sippy cup (he must be so used to seeing his mom do amazing feats that it doesn’t even faze him!).
“Doing everything possible to try and get comfortable this pregnancy, even if that means getting upside down hahaha,” she quipped in her caption. I can totally relate to being uncomfortable while pregnant — but I’ve never even attempted a handstand to alleviate the discomfort!
If there was a competition for most impressive pregnancy moves, Johnson would get the gold!
