Pregnant Kourtney Kardashian’s Latest Bump Pic Is Sparking Backlash — & There Might Actually Be a Good Reason

Usually, Kourtney Kardashian’s punk rock pregnancy looks have drawn lots of praise, but her latest bump pic has sparked some serious backlash. And, weirdly enough, we kind of see their point?

The picture itself, which Kardashian posted on Instagram yesterday, is stunning. She sits in front of an armchair covered in denim, wearing a trench coat over a white cropped Blink-182 shirt that shows off her bare baby bump. She’s paired this with unbuttoned shorts, torn fishnet leggings, and knee-high black boots, per her edgy new style. (You can see the picture HERE.)

It’s not so much the photo — which many fans loved, even commenting things like, “One thing about kourtney she’s gonna SLAY her maternity shoot 😂🙌❤️ — but what the photo is promoting that people had a problem with.

“Boohoo by Kourtney Kardashian Barker 🖤 launching September 28,” she captioned the post, announcing her new collection with fast fashion brand Boohoo.

“The absolute opposite of sustainability which I thought was your whole deal,” one person commented.

Someone else said, “Beeing vegan but working with boohoo … I mean ??? Does it match? Sustainability and stuff?”

“She won’t use plastic but just launched a line with a fast fashion brand??? Lol ok,” another wrote.

The UK-based brand has been criticized for “misleading consumers that they are environmentally friendly,” according to Business Insider, in a process known as “greenwashing.”

Brett Staniland, model and sustainable fashion editor, told Huffpost about Boohoo’s company Pretty Little Thing: “Their products are trend-led and ultra-fast, meaning they’re specifically not designed to be resold or have any longevity whatsoever, so resale is never on the cards for those items.” He added, “The most sustainable thing they can do is just cease operations altogether.”

It seems Kardashian has no intention of doing anything about the backlash. Last September, she even addressed it on Instagram. “I went back and forth about doing this collection with @boohoo because the first thing I think about when I hear the words ‘fast fashion’ is that it’s bad for our planet,” she said. “Boohoo approached me to be a sustainability ambassador, and though I knew it would get backlash because the two just don’t go hand in hand, I thought about the fact that fast fashion, or the fashion industry in general, isn’t going anywhere.”

She added, “I thought about the attention this collaboration would bring to people who may otherwise have no idea about the impacts of fast fashion on our planet. I thought about how pushing Boohoo to make some initial changes and then holding them accountable to larger change would be impactful. It’s definitely making some noise which is exactly what I was hoping for. I certainly don’t have all the answers, but for someone who has done a fast fashion line collaboration in the past, which didn’t get backlash because I was not calling attention to trying to make better changes, I feel proud about doing it with intention and purpose.”

Kardashian is mom to Mason, 13, Penelope, 11, and Reign, 8, with ex Scott Disick and is currently pregnant with her first baby with husband Travis Barker. She had the cutest Disneyland-themed baby shower over the weekend, with many fans seeing a now-deleted photo that hinted the baby-to-be’s name will be Rocky Barker. It would definitely fit with the couple’s rock-n-roll vibe!

These stunning maternity photos capture the beauty, excitement, and power of pregnancy.
