Preen by Thornton Bregazzi RTW Fall 2021

Designers Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi built this collection in reaction to lockdown, with roomy, cozy silhouettes meant for protection and comfort. They also played with the idea of getting all dressed up just to stay at home. Sustainability was at the core: The designers used recycled materials, deadstock fabrics and are only doing limited runs.

The look: Roomy dresses and coats in flower prints, and ruffles large and small around necklines, shoulders and the edges of coats and pockets.

Quote of note: “We watched the original ‘Grey Gardens’ and were inspired by Little Edie, who enjoyed the concept of ’Even if you don’t go out, you can go out in your mind.’ It’s about dressing up at home with nowhere to go thus letting your imagination and love of style take you there.”

Standout pieces: Cobalt blue coat with statement sleeves and lasagna ruffles on the pockets, and an off-the-shoulder midi dress with a red flower print.

Takeaway: An elegant, thoughtful collection with a quirky edge.
