It seems like next spring will be the season of ugly shoe brands making a stylish comeback. At London Fashion Week, Christopher Kane offered a stony update on the comfortable Crocs clog, completely reconfiguring a polarizing shoe.

Introducing, the new Ugg sandals.

Notable for comfort, Ugg boots are the footwear of choice for basics and European tourists everywhere. Now the company has teamed up with Preen by Thornton Bregazzi on a few sandal styles that will undoubtedly catch the eyes of street-style stars.

Hitting stores in February (why must we wait, why?), the sandals come in a “flatform” and a low style, both available in black or white. Like all Uggs, the shoes include Treadlite by Ugg technology, which means they’re lightweight (sometimes not the case for footwear with a platform) and comfortable, adding what some call a slight bounce to your step. As a sandal, the shoes distance themselves from the Pumpkin Spice Latte season that Ugg is known for and include stylish tweaks from the Preen designers.

“The shoes are part of ‘Tokyo Pastel Goths’ and in part the seamless gloss of Jeff Koons manipulations of balloon and bow art,” Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi of Preen said in a press release. “We worked with UGG to develop runway shoes that are effortless and edgy, cute and tough, it’s all about the attitude.”

Featuring adjustable straps and a cute bow as the central points of design, the two-piece collection is quite chic. It is undoubtedly a more winning design than Ugg’s recently introduced collaboration with Teva, a company, along with Ugg, owned by Deckers Brands. In fact, that partnership could be called the company’s most divisive (read, unattractive) line yet.

Flatforms have been trending hard this year with options from Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and even Burberry hitting the shelves. Phoebe Philo turned Celine loafers up a notch in the category, and Lacoste added a bit of height to typical slides. The list of brands goes on: Alexander Wang, Margiela and Marni, are all included.

For those hoping for warm-weather comfort as well as a cute design, the Preen collaboration will be available at all 150 Ugg locations worldwide next year as well as other select retailers. So far, they are the chicest ugly shoes we’ve ever seen.
