Here Are Our Predictions for Rihanna's Super Bowl Halftime Show Set Design

With Rihanna as this year's Super Bowl halftime show headliner, it’s safe to say everyone who plans to tune in has high hopes. While specific details about the show have largely remained a secret, the event’s sponsor Apple Music has released a few teaser videos for the artist’s live performance comeback that allude to the show’s production design.
The latest teaser is set to her song “Run This Town” and highlights the singer’s roots by featuring a girl who struts down the street in Barbados where Rihanna grew up. Located in Bridgetown, the street was once labeled as Westbury New Road and was renamed Rihanna Drive in 2017.
From the colors shown in that video—including the bright green bus interior and the vivid paint job on the surrounding homes—and her bright green outfit in the official trailer, we predict the performance will make use of green, pink, and yellow accents (at the very least!). We wouldn’t be surprised if we saw some version of her hometown street on the field similar to how the set design for last year’s show was inspired by the streets of Compton. Maybe her entrance will even involve stepping off of a green bus while wearing cool shades as kites soar around her. The 13-minute performance will likely call for a healthy dose of vibrant, colored lighting to pull it all together.
For Rihanna, the show is more than an ode to her career. It’s about representation. “That’s a big part of why this is important for me to do the show,” Rihanna said during the Apple Music halftime show press conference. “Representing for immigrants, representing for my country Barbados, representing for Black women everywhere. I think that’s really important. I’m honored to be doing this.”
