SHANGHAIPrada has unveiled a collaboration with the Chinese hit TV series “Blossoms Shanghai,” which includes four key looks worn by Chinese actress Ma Yili on screen.

“Blossoms Shanghai,” adapted from Shanghainese writer Jin Yucheng‘s award-winning 2012 novel “Blossoms,” is a 30-episode period drama directed by Wong Kar Wai, which was seven years in the making.

Set in ’90s Shanghai, the show is a coming-of-age story about ambitious entrepreneurs at a time of economic prosperity. Complete with lavish set designs and shot through a nostalgic filter, the series quickly became a cultural phenomenon for its cinematic quality and the use of the Shanghainese dialect.

The collaboration was more than three years in the making, when Wong’s team first reached out to Prada to pull items for the filming.

The Prada x Blossoms Shanghai collection is mainly a celebration of the wardrobe of Lingzi, one of the three female protagonists in the TV series. Played by Chinese actress Ma Yili, Lingzi is a spiffy restauranteur known for her fashion-forward wardrobe, which also featured items from Issey Miyake, Versace and Gucci.

The capsule recreated several signature looks featured prominently on screen, including a chemisier dress with tie-dye prints from the brand’s women’s spring 2004 collection, a fluffy orange mohair coat, a green crinkled wool ensemble and a laminated wool cardigan in camel from the brand’s women’s fall 2007 collection.

Additional pieces, including sweaters and cardigans in cozy yarns, skirts in sparkling fabrics and alpaca dresses, alongside a range of winter accessories fit for Shanghai’s flash-freeze weather, as well as three styles of handbags, complete the capsule.

To celebrate the collaboration, Prada held a cocktail reception on Wednesday night at Prada Rong Zhai, the Italian luxury fashion brand’s restored mansion in downtown Shanghai. The event was attended by the likes of Ma and Du Juan.

Du, the well-known Chinese model and one of the personalities in Prada’s latest spring 2024 campaign, also took on an impactful role in “Blossoms Shanghai.” To add an element of surprise and create an immersive experience, “Blossoms Shanghai” set designers recreated scenes from the show, using mostly props from the set, to display the collection.

The capsule will be available to preorder by appointment from Thursday to Sunday at Prada Rong Zhai.
