Prada’s New Yoga Mats Are the Feel-Good Accessory of the Summer

Prada’s limited-edition floral- and banana-print yoga mats turn even downward dog and child’s pose into a stylish undertaking.

It came as a surprise when a friend recently asked me after yoga class one morning, “What kind of mat do you use?” The truth is, I had never given it any thought—and as someone who’s been late to a workout because I couldn’t decide which Live The Process bodysuit to wear, how odd it is that I’d been absentmindedly lugging the same big black rectangle, handed off to me by a coworker, to my daily 6:30 a.m. practice for the past year. But, alas, the universe works in mysterious ways: Just a few days later I came across an Instagram that made my pulse suddenly quicken: Prada. Yoga. Mats.

Available in three reissued hibiscus hues (cherry red, Army green, and bright blue) as well as an iconic banana print that die-hard Miuccia devotees will recognize from the house’s Spring 2011 collection, the limited-edition made-in-Italy mats are just the kind of designer-stamped accessory one could imagine Carrie Bradshaw toting around—that is, slightly over-the-top, more than a little indulgent (they run $460 a pop), and oh-so-very need-it-now. In other words, though they may not make utkatasana any more bearable or my standing splits any more limber, they’ll sure help me show up. And, as any good guru will teach you, that’s more than half the battle.
