Laptop designs haven’t changed all that much, but we’ve been seeing some crazy stuff the last couple of years. Take the Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 3, which the company just announced for CES 2022. Instead of rocking an E Ink display like its predecessor, Lenovo has fashioned a secondary 8-inch display right next to its keyboard. Not surprisingly, it begs the question of whether or not it’s actually practical.

At first glance, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 3 will command attention to its 17.3-inch 3,072 x 1,330 touch display — partly because it goes with an unconventional 21:10 ultra wide aspect ratio, with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Everything about it screams the perfect productivity laptop, evident by its support of 12th Gen Intel Core H-Series processors, up to 32 GB LPDDR5 RAM, and up to 2TB solid state storage.

However, the strangest thing about it is the 8-inch touchscreen that’s embedded right next to the keyboard. It’s there to complement multi-tasking functions, such as the ability to turn into a notepad using the integrated digital pen, used as a quick launcher to open apps, and even mirroring your smartphone. Essentially, it’s there to keep the main display clutter free — which we suppose could be useful when you’re juggling multiple things at once.

Now, if this is something that certainly appeals to you, just know that the Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 3 will become available in May 2022 for the starting price of $1,399.
