Powder Alert Issued For Ski Resorts In Southern Rockies

A winter storm warm warning is in effect for three New Mexico ski areas: Taos Ski Valley, Angel Fire Resort, and Ski Santa Fe.

PowderChasers, a forecasting team popular amongst skiers, just shared that the storm could bring "12-18 inches above 7500 feet."

From the caption:

"Powder Alert! New Mexico will see 12-18 inches above 7500 feet, with 6-12 possible in a few areas in southern Colorado. We are most bullish for resorts impacted by S, SE flow, such as Ski Santa Fe Angel Fire. Taos will grab fresh with possibly lower amounts. In Colorado, the models are not in agreement. We like the odds north of Durango towards Purgatory. Wolf 🐺 should do okay also (lower totals)."

NOAA parrots Powderchasers predictions, forecasting a foot or more of snow for Angel Fire and Ski Santa Fe this week. Less snow is predicted at Taos Ski Valley. Of these three resorts, Ski Sante Fe is the frontrunner. The upper end of NOAA's forecast—an even more bullish prediction than Powderchasers—currently calls for 30 inches at the resort.

As noted by Powderchasers, a southern Colorado ski resort—Purgatory—also stands to pick up snow.

Taos Ski Valley and Ski Santa Fe have already opened for the season. However, Angel Fire plans to open later this week on Friday, December 15th. The timing could be impeccable for local skiers, with the resort's winter storm warning concluding the night prior. Game on!
