Pottsville pickleball courts grand opening moved to Friday because of forecast

Pottsville’s parks and recreation department has moved the grand opening for its new pickleball courts at the Bunker Hill Park and Playground to noon Friday because of a forecast for rain on Thursday.

The ribbon-cutting will include local dignitaries and special guests, information on free clinics and demonstrations, instructions on the basics of pickleball from experienced instructors and information on pickle ball leagues, where players can compete with other interested picklers to develop their skills.

Attendees can enter a drawing to win pickleball equipment.

The state-of-the-art courts have new court surfaces constructed and painted to provide optimal traction and ball control, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.

Other features are:

• LED lighting that ensures the courts are well-lit for evening play and extending hours of availability.

• Bench seating for players and spectators.

• On-site and street parking.

• Protected by 24-hour video surveillance.
