Who Is Posting on FB as This Missing Couple?
Charlie Carver, 32, has been constantly updating his Facebook page with major life events (that he and his girlfriend were expecting, that they bought a house, that they were married) on the first of every month for the past three months. While this wouldn’t normally be alarming, Carver - and his 30-year-old girlfriend Kala Brown - vanished from their Anderson, South Carolina, apartment on August 31 and have been missing since. According to The Daily Beast, Carver’s family believes an imposter has been updating the page and is desperate to find out who has been impersonating him.
When the couple disappeared, their car did too and their cell phones went dead the same day. Both Carver and Brown were reportedly close with their families, rarely going a day without speaking to them or friends, so after not hearing from her son for a few days, Carver’s mother Bobbie Newson asked their building’s manager to go check on their apartment. He found it unlocked and empty, but the couple left behind many of their essentials, including Brown’s medication, glasses, and contact lenses. Her Pomeranian, left without food or water, was found pacing their empty apartment as well. “That dog is her baby. She’d never leave him like that,” Newsom told NBC.
Besides the life updates, whoever has been posing as Carver has been sending messages to his friends and posting regularly as well, which many claim is unlike him. Carver’s best friend Lindsey Mayson told The Daily Beast just last week an old picture of the couple was uploaded - and quickly deleted - to his page with the caption “we are fine.” Mason insisted that “Is not him. His Facebook posts have been hacked. It’s not him posting.” Meanwhile, Brown’s account, which she constantly posted on, according to family, hasn’t been touched.
The most recent post on Carver’s account was on October 2: “What color ribbon supports the people who can’t keep their nose out of other people’s business?” it read. “I wish I could tell them to stop,” Carver’s sister Katie told The Daily Beast, “If they know where he is, bring him home.”
According to PEOPLE, police suspect foul play but have yet to name any suspects. Though the investigation is ongoing, they’ve discovered no new leads.
Friends and family are maintaining a separate Facebook account dedicating to finding the pair.
