Popular New Zealand Resort Announces Opening Day

How often do you see an opening day for a ski resort announced as June 24th? Well, if we are talking Southern Hemisphere, opening in June is pretty common. And if we aren't talking Southern Hemsiphere... well, then this post would be pointless. The popular resort, Treble Cone, on the South Island of New Zealand has officially called their shot, and the season will commence in under a month!

Near the town of Wanaka, Treble Cone is one of the largest ski areas in the country and is renowned for its stunning alpine scenery, challenging terrain, and excellent powder. The resort is nestled within the Southern Alps, offering breathtaking views of Lake Wanaka and the surrounding mountains. It boasts the longest vertical rise in the Southern Lakes region, providing an extensive range of terrain suitable for all skill levels. The resort offers a mix of groomed trails and off-piste terrain, including steep chutes, wide-open bowls, and natural features. Typically receiving snowfall from June to September, the resort's high elevation and southerly aspect contribute to its reputation.  The ski season at Treble Cone generally runs during those same months (June to early October), operating from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM weather permitting. It is easily accessible from Wanaka by car or shuttle, and Wanaka itself can be reached by car from Queenstown, which has an international airport with connections to major cities in New Zealand and Australia.

Riding there a few years ago, we can personally attest to the beautiful resort and fun runs. It is quite honestly one of our favorite places to ride (New Zealand as a whole, that is). So book a flight this summer and enjoy while they are open and everything up here is closed!
