Popular Westchester brewery to close; plus 3 eatery closings in Eastchester

The popular, 15-year-old Peekskill Brewery, plus three Eastchester dining establishments, one of which had been in business for 14 years, have closed or are about to close or reinvent. Details follow.

Peekskill Brewery, Peekskill

Peekskill Brewery, known affectionately as "PB," is closing as of Nov. 22. In a statement owners Kara, Keith and Morgan Berardi wrote how the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was too much to overcome, despite their best efforts. "We ask you to understand that we have done everything we could to keep PB operating including incurring debt and restructuring operations (several times to meet customer’s changing preferences and behaviors)," they wrote. "However, Peekskill Brewery’s sales have not returned to pre-pandemic levels and we can no longer afford to operate.

"Fifteen years of owning and operating a small business brings unimaginable challenges. The three — Keith and Morgan are siblings and Kara is married to Keith — will be hosting a "Kick the Keg" event Nov. 22 from noon to 8 p.m. to say "Cheers in Perpetuity."

The brewpub, in business since 2008 and known as much for its approachable lineup of beers as well as for its dog-friendly beer garden, is located at 47 S. Water St., 914-734-2337, peekskillbrewery.com

Westchester Meat Market, Eastchester

There's good news and bad news here. The meat market, which opened in March and was known for its gourmet sandwiches, burgers, meats and curated grocery items, has closed. Coming in its place, from Peter Bicaj, the same owner (he no longer has business partners), will be a 45-seat steakhouse. Bicaj, who has more than 20 years restaurant experience, expects to open in January 2024 and promises his same burgers will be on the bar menu. Many in the area may know him from his time at the now-closed Sea Flame Steakhouse in Scarsdale. 1 Mill Road

Pane & Gelato, Eastchester

The 14-year-old Italian dessert shop, popular for its all-natural housemade gelatos, closed in early September. Sicilian-born owner Paolo Pilano, who liked to say he was from “the land of gelato," retired. The sweet shop was located at 290 White Plains Road.

Tapas & Cucina, Eastchester

Chef Gennaro Martinelli, who owned this Spanish and Italian tapas restaurant, closed it in August, telling The Journal News/lohud it became too hard running two places. He also owns San Gennaro restaurant on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx.

Signage is on the door saying an Indian restaurant named Marigold is coming.
