Popular Video Game Martha Is Dead Gets the Movie Treatment

Italian game studio LKA, UK publisher Wired Productions and Swedish film-production company Studios Extraordinaires are collaborating on a film adaptation of the video game Martha Is Dead.

The game takes place in the backdrop of World War II in 1944 Tuscany, with players navigating as Giulia, who is caught up in the mystery of her dead twin sister, Martha.

Video game adaptations are having a moment in the media.

Last spring, The Super Mario Bros Movie bagged $1.3 billion at the box office and then Five Nights at Freddy's made history a few months later with one of the largest openings ever for a horror movie and for a video game adaptation.

Martha Is Dead is described as a psychological horror game that blurs the lines between reality, superstition, and the tragedy of war into a captivating mystery that keeps players on edge until the very end of the game.

The founder and director of LKA and writer and designer of the game, Luca Dalcò, said, "Bringing this to life as a film is a dream come true."

Dalcò also said, "Every element of Martha Is Dead was created with extraordinary precision and care. The narrative's complexity was meticulously planned, visualized, and even shaped with a cinematic quality in mind".
