A popular tampon has been recalled after unravelling inside of users' bodies

Kimberly-Clark has recalled its U by Kotex Sleek Tampons after reports that the products have unraveled or come apart upon removal.

Kimberly-Clark has recalled its U by Kotex Sleek Tampons after reports that the products have unraveled or come apart upon removal. According to the recall announcement, affected users have had to seek “medical attention to remove tampon pieces left in the body.” Cue the collective shrieks. Kimberly-Clark’s full statement reads:

“Kimberly-Clark has received reports from consumers of the U by Kotex Sleek Tampons, Regular Absorbency, unraveling and/or coming apart upon removal, and in some cases causing users to seek medical attention to remove tampon pieces left in the body. There also have been a small number of reports of infections, vaginal irritation, localized vaginal injury, and other symptoms.”

The recall, which only pertains to the United States and Canada, is specific to tampons manufactured prior to October 16th, and distributed between October 17th and October 23rd. To find out if your box is affected, search the lot number on the U by Kotex website. Alternatively, users can contact Kimberly-Clark by phone at 1-888-255-3499 for questions. No other U by Kotex products are affected by the recall.
