Popular Southern comfort food chain opens San Diego location

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Chicken sandwich lovers, rejoice! A popular fast food chain serving up Southern comfort food has opened its first location in San Diego.

Rise Southern Biscuits and Righteous Chicken, known as ‘Rise’ for short, officially held its grand opening Saturday for its new restaurant on El Cajon Boulevard near San Diego State University.

The chain, which was founded in Durham, N.C., specializes in Southern-style biscuits and fried chicken but also serves a mix of savory and sweet treats like cinnamon rolls, beignets, chix & grits (chicken fingers over cheese grits) and cheesy tots.

Rise has 23 locations nationwide, with three more in the works. The San Diego restaurant is its second location in California with the other being in Thousand Oaks.

The new restaurant is located at 6364 El Cajon Blvd. and is open daily between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.
