Save big at the grocery store by avoiding these items.
When you go to the grocery store, it's tempting to drop a little more cash on those little convenient items. Why buy whole apples when you can buy pre-packaged sliced fruit? Who wants to make their own salad dressing when it's already bottled? These things may be cheap and easy time-savers, but consider the larger scheme of things.
There are some items at the store that you should skip buying entirely, whether it's to save some money, reap the health benefits, or to do your part when it comes to saving the environment. The next time you run to the store and feel tempted to buy some of these things, think twice about putting them in your cart.
Ann: Mental problems are NOT the only reason people are living on the streets. I am 78 yrs. old, worked all my life after high school and had good, avg.-paying jobs. I now live on social security, which until two years ago, was fine. I had a nice small apt., paid the normal utilities, etc. Then the cost of apts. in my city went through the roof, with no warning. We are now covered up in high-price housing that people like me can no longer afford. Example: rent went from $495/mo. to $675/mo. One more rent increase and I'll be on the street...literally. I'm old, not married, no children...which all goes against my situation. Most of you will say the common things like why didn't you save. why don't you have family, why didn't you get higher paying jobs, why, why, why. It's because I have always been low income, but have paid my way and haven't asked anyone for anything....until now. What do the millions of people like me do now? We can't afford to live in America.
