Popeyes Wants to Make Your Thanksgiving Turkey

Thanksgiving is a special time of year where we sit down with our families to give thanks for the bountiful gifts we’ve received over the past year. While some lucky foodies will no doubt be counting the Popeyes chicken sandwich among the blessings they’ve received, many others missed out. Thankfully, there’s a way that Popeye’s can bring the family together that everyone can access and enjoy.

That’s because starting now, you can pre-order your very own Popeyes Cajun-Style Turkey for the ultimate Thanksgiving fast food fest. For $39.99, you could get your hands on a 13 to 16 pound hand-rubbed turkey, adorned with the same flavorful Louisiana-style seasonings that makes their chicken such a hit.

Despite the fact that you’re ordering your Thanksgiving centerpiece from a fast food chain, the prep and cooking process should be fairly familiar to anyone who’s picked up a pre-cooked bird before. After thawing the bird (which apparently needs to ship on ice), stick that bad boy in an oven preheated to 300ºF for two to two and a half hours, until it hits 140 degrees inside. Carve it up and serve.

2019 isn’t the first time the Louisiana-themed chicken chain has sold a different kind of avian meat in honor of Thanksgiving, but certainly should garner more attention this year given the sandwich (or lack thereof) situation. Those who’ve been lucky enough to taste test this cajun turkey describe the interior breast meat as “incomparably juicy,” noting that the skin “had decent zing and heat, with a citrus vinegary tang and residual burn.” Sure sounds better than what I could whip up if tasked with basting and preparing a Thanksgiving turkey.

That’s also not to mention that a place like Popeyes is laden with Thanksgiving-friendly sides and autumnal desserts you’ll need. All you have to do is call your local Popeyes or stop by in person to see if they’re participating and then put down your claim.

So as long as you keep your mouth shut and hide the packaging, you can probably pull off an entire Thanksgiving dinner that Aunt Deb will love with minimal actual cooking thanks to an assist from everyone’s favorite cajun chicken spot. Good luck.
