How to Make a Monster Halloween Wreath

Supplies Needed

  • Several shades of green yarn

  • Scissors

  • Foam wreath form

  • Ribbon

  • Hot-glue gun and sticks

  • Large googly eyes

Step-by-Step Directions

With a few inexpensive supplies and these how-to instructions, you can create your own monster wreath. Customize your Halloween wreath with your favorite yarn colors like purple, orange, or black.

Step 1: Make Pom-Poms

Start the wreath by making a large batch of pom-poms in several shades of green yarn (swap out shades of another color for a monster that perfectly matches your existing decor). Use our easy hack for creating several pom-poms at once: Flip a chair or stool over and wrap your yarn around two of the legs 20 or 30 times; it will take more yarn than you might think to create full, round poms. Tie off 1- to 2-inch sections with short pieces of yarn or string as tightly as possible. Cut at the midpoint between each tied string so you're left with several yarn bunches tied in the middle. Gently fluff the yarn so it resembles a pom-pom and trim as necessary.

Step 2: Prepare Wreath Form

Hot glue is the easiest method of attaching the yarn poms to the wreath form, but hot glue doesn't adhere well to foam, so wrap the wreath in ribbon first. Use a ribbon that coordinates with your yarn colors, so the ribbon won't be as obvious if any areas are visible between the poms. Wrap the ribbon around the entire wreath, overlapping the ends; secures ends with hot glue.

Step 3: Attach Pom-Poms

When the wreath has been fully covered, it's time to add the poms. Add a bead of hot glue directly to the ribbon and gently press each pom into the glue and hold to secure. Alternate between sizes and colors.

Step 4: Add Eyes

When the wreath is completely covered in fluffy poms, hot-glue a set of oversize googly eyes on top of the poms. Use a traditional set of two, or create a super spooky monster craft by adding three or four eyes!
