Police Warn "Mare of Easttown" Fans to Stop Trespassing at Mare’s House

HBO’s Mare of Easttown has proven to be yet another hit series from the network—and fans of the show are certainly making their appreciation known, as Delco, Pennsylvania-area police are warning them to stop trespassing at the abode that acted as the home of detective Mare Sheehan (played by Kate Winslet).

In real life, the dwelling is located in Wallingford, Pennsylvania, and it’s a private residence. According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, the home’s address appeared in an online article in late April, shortly after the show’s premiere, and since then, fans of the show have been visiting and taking photos in front of the now-famous house.

“We have received several complaints regarding incidents at the site of the filming,” Nether Providence Police Chief David Splain told The Philadelphia Inquirer. This past Monday, June 21st, police started to patrol the vicinity surrounding the abode, with Splain adding that “thrill seekers” should stay away.

In an interview with 6ABC, a local news outlet, the owner of the house revealed that recently, a stranger came right up to the house (at night, no less) to peer into the front window. Funny enough, Mare of Easttown did not film the inside of the house for the show, as only the exterior was used. And the homeowner has been met with further maltreatment due to the show’s starring role: When she was playing in the front yard with her daughter one day, she politely asked a woman to not take photos of the home; that woman then cursed at her.

“Mare’s not there,” Micah Knapp, a resident and township commissioner of Wallingford, told The Philadelphia Inquirer.

In recent weeks, "no trespassing" signs have been placed on the home’s lawn, an action done by the owners in an attempt to mitigate the issues that have recently arisen. Splain adds that he believes the trespassers “are coming from outside the area.”

In the state of Pennsylvania, the maximum sentence for trespassing is a $2,500 fine and a year in jail. Hopefully, Mare won’t be enlisted to investigate the case herself, as that would be a conflict of interest.
