Police seeking 2 suspects in string of Walmart robberies, including store in Berks

Apr. 27—Police said they are looking for two members of a trio allegedly behind a rash of Walmart robberies, including a theft from a Tilden Township store, after arresting one suspect Wednesday.

Jamaal Mitchell, 42, and his son, Jahmir Mitchell, 24, both of Philadelphia, along with a third, unidentified man tried to steal from more than 57 Walmart and Sam's Club stores throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland, Tilden police said.

Charges of robbery, retail theft, terroristic threats and related offenses were filed Wednesday against Jamaal Mitchell and Jahmir Mitchell.

Multiple arrest warrants were issued.

Jahmir Mitchell was arrested Wednesday in Philadelphia and is in custody in the Philadelphia Department of Prisons, officials said.

Jamaal Mitchell and the third suspect remain at large and are considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Tilden police gave the following account of the robbery at Walmart on Tilden Ridge Drive:

On Oct. 16 about 9 p.m. Jamaal Mitchell, Jahmir Mitchell and the third suspect loaded up two shopping carts with $933 worth of merchandise.

They left the store through the fire exit, where they had a black Jeep Cherokee waiting as a getaway vehicle.

Store associates tried to stop them, but one of the suspects drew a handgun and threatened to kill them.

The incident was reported to police on Oct. 21.

The suspects follow the same pattern when robbing stores and typically drive the same vehicle.

Police said the suspects routinely swap out license plates to avoid detection.

Two plates are registered to the Jeep: New Jersey L87PTP and Delaware 299336.

Police are asking anyone with information about the whereabouts or identity of the unidentified third suspect or the whereabouts of Jamaal Mitchel to contact the Tilden police department at 610-562-9001 or crimetips@tildentownship.com. Tips can also be reported anonymously for cash to Crime Alert Berks at 877-373-9913.

If anyone comes into contact with the suspects or the vehicle, they should call 911 and use caution, police said.
