Pokemon Paldean Wind

A massive Pokémon Presents just aired, announcing a host of things for the franchise. There was the release of Pokémon Trading Card Game and Pokémon Stadium 2, the announcement of a release date for the upcoming Scarlet and Violet DLC, and a new trailer for Detective Pikachu Returns. But the most interesting news was the reveal of two animation projects, both of which are coming in the next month or so.

The first is Pokémon: Path to the Peak, an animated short about the Pokémon TCG. It’s actually named after a location in the Pokémon games, an area in the Crown Tundra in Galar, at the top of which is the supposed king of Galar.

That’s pretty thematically appropriate, as the series is about a young girl discovering her talent for Pokémon TCG after moving schools. She’ll be working towards the championships for the card game, and it all looks and sounds pretty cute.

Pokémon: Path to the Peak will premiere at the Pokémon World Championship in Yokohama, Japan, followed by a release on YouTube shortly after, on August 11, 2023.

The second animation project is an online original animated series called Pokémon: Paldean Winds. The Pokémon Company says the series will follow a group of academy students as they try to learn their place in the world. It sounds like it’ll follow the story of the games a little more closely than Pokémon Horizons, which has not really been following it much at all.

Pokémon: Paldean Winds will start on September 6, though it’s not currently known how many episodes it’ll be, how long each episode will be, or if they’ll all drop at once. Stay tuned for that information.

Speaking of Pokémon Horizons, a new trailer for the anime was shown during the Presents, but unfortunately no release date was given for the English version. We expect that The Pokémon Company is waiting for Ash’s journey to come to an end, but it’s still frustrating to have no release date. All the more reason for the Pokémon anime to get an official sub.
