"Pokémon Detective Pikachu" Stars Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton Review Pokémon Memes

Gotta catch them all.

Unfortunately, we all know that Pokémon don't actually exist. But we had Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton, the stars of Pokémon Detective Pikachu, weigh in on something arguably just as fun: Pokémon memes.

The two actors recently stopped by Teen Vogue before the movie's release to review and laugh over some of the best Pocket Monster memes we could find on the internet. Between Easter Eggs from old Pokémon video games and crossovers with other pop culture franchises (including Ryan Reynolds's Deadpool, who voices Pikachu), the duo had quite the time checking out these memes. Justice and Kathryn also shared their first reactions to the movie's trailer.

"When the trailer dropped I forgot I was in the movie because I was just looking at the Pokémon and all the cool textures because it was exactly how I wanted to see them realized when I was a little kid," Justice said. Meanwhile, Kathryn had a bit of a different experience — she broke out in tears and called her co-star.

She asked Justice, "What'd you say? Do you remember?" to which he definitely did and chimed in, "Because it's magical, that's what I said!"

We also got treated to some tidbits about the adventure film and actors that we didn't know before. Turns out, one of Kathryn's co-stars on another project got her the Pokémon video game as a wrap gift when they found out she nabbed the role as the Psyduck-partner Lucy Stevens. Justice, who plays Tim Goodman in the movie, has been a longtime fan. When he was a kid, he collected all the original generation Pokémon cards. He even had the elusive, holographic Machamp card.

Check out the complete video below and catch Pokémon Detective Pikachu in theaters starting May 10.
