Poetry and pizza at Cleburne library
Apr. 24—From beginners to seasoned writers, the Cleburne Public Library staff invites all to stretch their imagination and display their creative side by diving into the figurative language of similes, metaphors, personification, onomatopoeia and zeugmas.
Not to mention a night of free fun, good eats and artistic expression.
April being National Poetry Month, the library is celebrating with Poetry and Pizza: An Evening of Poetry Readings by the Public. The event is 6-7 p.m. April 29 at the library, 302 W. Henderson St.
Attendees are encouraged to recite their appropriate, original poem whether that poem has been published or not.
Non poets and/or pizza fans are encouraged to attend as well to attend the readings.
The event while free requires registration. Do so by calling the library at 817-645-0934.
All ages and lovers of poetry from Shel Silverstein to Lord Byron and everyone in between are invited.
"Or anyone who just enjoys the lyrics of songs or a baby who claps its hands to a nursery rhyme," library volunteer Bettye Cook said.
Cooke spoke of imagery and the unforgettable pictures poems paint on our mind as well as the rhythm and rhyme, or not, of a satisfying poem.
"[Poetry] says a lot in a little space," Cooke said. "It can be as down to earth or as fanciful as the poet wishes."
Library staff also invite poetic residents to lend their creativity to creation of the library's Poet-tree by writing a poem on a paper leaf and giving it to staff members to add to the tree.
