PLAY Roanoke celebrates National Kids to Parks Day with free move night

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Grab your little ones and get your popcorn ready!

In celebration of National Kids to Parks Day, the Roanoke Parks and Recreation Department is inviting families to explore any of the 51 parks on May 18.

As the Saturday night settles in, the community can join the department for its second annual Elmwood Park Move Night. This year, “Wonka,” and “The International Paddling Film Festival” will take the big screen for a fun and free family movie night.

The Roanoke Parks and Recreation Department says the gates to the amphitheater will open at 5:45 p.m. and “Wonka” will start at 6:15 p.m. The second movie will start at 8:30 p.m.

Event organizers say seats will be available but families can bring chairs, blankets, and snacks. On movie night, Two Roosters Kettle Corn will donate 150 bags of popcorn to families attending the event. Charlee Tropical will also be present with its fresh lemonade for sale.
