According to a press release, Family Health has been accepted into the 2024 Prescription for Play Learning Collaborative. The six-month program offered by the Weitzman Institute and funded by the LEGO Foundation will help Family Health to provide free LEGO DUPLO kits to children during their 18 to 36-month-old child visits.

Officials say the program is in place to help educate parents and caregivers on the importance of play to the development of healthy children. As part of the program, Family Health care teams have been trained on the importance of play for children and ways for providers to encourage parents and caregivers to use play to identify potential developmental delays.

Dr. Tonya Dubs, a pediatrician at the Eight Mile Health Center, is the provider champion for the project, according to the release.

“We are excited to have the prescription for play program at the agency,” said Dr. Dobbs. “Play is an important part of childhood development. It is fun for the patient and family, but it also helps with brain development, social and physical development.”
