Pack your bags without fear: This indoor planter will take care of your houseplant while you’re on vacation, for up to three weeks at a time! Created by Barcelona-based Nima-whose founders were tired of their own plants dying on them-the Carmen employs Watair irrigation. The two-tiered pot system consists of a main compartment above, containing your plant and filter, and a water reservoir below. This lower compartment has two openings that allow air to circulate around the plant’s roots, preventing mold and keeping roots healthy.

The secret to Carmen’s life-sustaining magic is in the filter itself: Special threads from the filter dip down into the water reservoir. Acting like capillaries, the threads steadily suck up just enough water to keep your thirsty plant happy while you’re away. Depending on the type of plant you have, you either keep the threads dipped into the water at all times, or tuck them out of the way, till you’re ready to head out on vacation.

To maximize your ability to keep a plant alive, the company also researched the top three hardiest plants that do well with its Watair system. You can purchase the plants directly from Nima, or seek them out at your local nursery. They’re common varieties-ficus, snake plant, and the brightly hued Stromanthe “tricolor”-so it shouldn’t be difficult to find them. But if you choose to buy your plant from Nima, the planter will arrive with both plant and pot already set up. Bonus: Purchasing the houseplant includes a free monthly gardening service to help you with your green-thumb needs.

The attractive pot, whose swirled design recalls a flamenco performer’s twirling skirt (hence its name, after the famous Carmen Amaya), comes in elegant white clay or earthy terracotta. Either one will make your gardening skills seem as graceful and effortless as any dancer.

For more low-tech options, consider these houseplants that almost never need watering or vampire plants that thrive without much sunlight.
