Plains Day events set for June 1

May 22—Plains Day, taking place Saturday, June 1 will have activities for everyone's taste.

Starting off the day, Local VFW Post located on Lynch Street, will be serving breakfast from 7-11 a.m. Mini Horse Rides will get an early start at Fred Young Park, starting at 8:30 a.m. and will continue as long as they have interested riders. For those that will be in the Parade, sign up starts at the Plains School from 9-11 a.m.

Rocky Mountain Bank will be the place for the ice cream social and it starts at 10 a.m. One of the most poplar events during Plains Day is the parade, starting at eleven, and it will assemble at the Plains School and proceed down Montana 200 (Railroad Avenue). Come early for the parade, the sidewalks fill up fast. The grand marshal this year is Dave Helterline — a well-known name in Plains. There have been Helterlines here since the 1800s.

Local Plains Bible Chapel will be suppling a bounce house, located at Fred Young Park starting at noon and will be available until 3 p.m. Musician Dave Proctor, will be performing his music on the Greenway near the Rocky Mountain Bank, starting at 12:30 p.m.

For those interested in fast and furious action, turtle races will take place at the Rocky Mountain Bank at 1 p.m. A cornhole tournament will take place behind the Printery for those dead eyed bean bag throwers, sponsored by the Pickleball Association.

At 1:30 p.m., chainsaw artist Denny Hensen, from Sandpoint Idaho, will be giving demonstrations of his work and will offer several pieces for sale. He will be located on the greenway near the Willis Street corner. A crosscut competition will be held in front of the VFW building, starting at two-thirty.

For those that enjoy wearing their food as well as eating it, a watermelon eating contest will be taking place at Fred Young Park at 3 p.m. The Alliance Church sponsors this event.

Again, this year, the Ryan Family will be offering a potluck dinner, along with the ever poplar limbo dancing. For those that survived the limbo competition, an evening of dancing and a showing of the movie Parent Trap will take place at the Pool Park between 5-11 p.m.

Back again after being absent for many years, a dance competition will take place at the VFW location starting at seven. The music will be DJ 'ed by Kelly Hegg-Crosby.

A car show and venders will be displaying their items along the greenway sponsored by Rehbein Ford. Hamburgers at the VFW supplied by the Women's Club. The pancake breakfast supplied by the Masons.

Plains Day is hosted by the Free Americans and special thanks goes out to Blair Blizzard for her first year as head organizer and the many people involved in putting the event together.

Also taking place Saturday and Sunday at the Sanders County Fairground will be Plains High School and Junior Rodeo. Smoke King Barbeque will provide food. Music will be provided by the Kelly Hughes band.
