It's only been a year since Domino's surpassed Pizza Hut in global retail sales and took the title of "largest pizza company in the world." This summer, Pizza Hut is ready to jump back in the ring and remind customers that "No One Out Pizzas The Hut." They've already changed their recipe. The next course of action? A logo reboot.

That's right, Pizza Hut will be (partially) returning to a logo that originally debuted in 1967 and lasted until 1999, a time when the Hut was truly king. The Hut's Chief Brand Officer, Marianne Radley told CNN Business that "the classic logo will begin appearing on packaging later this year." Starting this week, the old logo will also be reintroduced in TV ads.

If you were around back then, you probably know what I'm talking about. But for the youth, here's some context:

Radley has also told CNN Business, that because "Pizza Hut is an iconic brand that is engrained in the hearts and minds of so many of our customers, we felt it was our job to make our creative reflect both the rich legacy of Pizza Hut, as well as nod to where we're headed."

Honestly, I love that approach and am definitely not mad at the "new" (old) logo! There's no stuffiness to it or even a gimmicky attitude. And while this is all still clearly a marketing strategy attempting to win back customers, it's simple. And TBH, in the age of big data and micro-targeting, I think that's what we all just might need from a brand...
