'Pitch Perfect' Fans Vow to Watch 'Grey's Anatomy' After Skylar Astin Shares News

Grey's Anatomy might have gotten a little more "aca-mazing" with the latest cast addition.
Best known for his musical roles on Pitch Perfect and Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, actor Skylar Astin is officially joining the longtime ABC medical drama. On March 3, the actor excitedly announced the news on his Instagram alongside a Variety article with the exclusive. "Cat’s outta the bag!! Can’t wait for @greysabcfans to meet Todd Eames. He’s a real McSweety 🥳," he captioned a series of photos and videos.
As Grey's fans recently witnessed, Dr. Cormac Hayes (Richard Flood) resigned from the Seattle-based hospital and though it was sad, it meant there was an opening for a new person. However, Skylar is coming on to the show as a non-medical doctor and a lover of spreadsheets. Starting in the March 24th episode of Grey's, he will portray environmental scientist Dr. Todd Earnes Ph. D.
After hearing about Skylar's incredible news, his celebrity friends immediately reached out to him in the comments section with heartfelt messages. Actress Katherine MacNamera wrote: "Congrats, Skylar!" Pitch Perfect star Shelley Regner added: "Oh d----, you’re about to make Momma Jan VERY happy!! Congrats sir! Know you’re killing it (or saving it… doctor pun nailed in!)." Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist actor Noah Weisberg commented: "YES!!! CONGRATS!!"
Skylar's fans were also ecstatic about the announcement. Some even shared that they were going to start watching the show just to show their support for him One person wrote: "Oh wow! I might have to start watching Grey’s again 😱." Another added: "Can’t wait!!! 👏👏👏." A different fan said: "Awe yay! I watch Grey's religiously and I'm a huge fan of yours as well. It’s a win win win as Michael Scott would say 😂Congrats!! 👏."
After Skylar makes his entrance as Todd later this month, he will have a recurring role on the show. According to Variety, Todd is a "charming and handsome with a gentle soul." Though it's not clear yet how he will be introduced to fans, we do know he has a sister who is a pregnant patient at the hospital. Whichever way it happens, it's bound to be good. Who knows, there might even be a musical episode in the near future with him now on board.
