Pirelli announced a voluntary recall of 14,500 P Zero Race TLR road tires in size 28 to 622 that were produced between mid-March and early June of this year. The tires have an issue with the bead compatibility with some rims.

The compatibility issue between the tire and rim can lead to the tires being inflated beyond the maximum pressure allowed for specific rims, which can cause the bead to unseat and the tire to flat.

According to Bicycle Retailer, one minor injury due to a sudden flat has been reported.

To see if your tires are affected by the recall, check the Model Name/Number, Tire ID, and Production Date Code. If your tire has the same model name/number and Tire ID listed in the chart below and a production date code between “1023” to “2423” (which includes 1123, 1223, 1323, etc.), then your tire is subject to this recall. (Pirelli listed the full range of tires on their website here, if you need to check.)

The 14,500 tires were sold at Competitive Cyclist, Trek and Angry Catfish stores nationwide from March 2023 through July 2023. Another 550 were sold in Canada. They retail for roughly $100.

If you believe you have one of the tires being recalled, stop using it immediately and contact Pirelli with any questions. Users are eligible to receive either a full refund or a replacement tire.
