ICYMI: Pippa Middleton stepped out with her brother, James, for their annual sister-brother trip to Wimbledon yesterday. Although Kate Middleton was sadly absent, her sister paid her sartorial homage and wore a pink Stella McCartney dress that was pretty similar to the one she wore to baby Archie’s christening. But, since Pippa doesn’t have to abide by royal protocol, she also chose a pair of surprisingly edgy shoes that Kate could probably never wear. (But Pippa does still have to abide by the dress code applied to Wimbledon spectators!)
Pippa typically opts for sensible wedges, like Kate, or even Jimmy Choo “Miami” sneakers ($495) when she’s out on a stroll with her son, Arthur. But when it comes to Wimbledon, she has rarely strayed from her Toni Pons espadrilles ($120). That’s part of what makes her on-trend mule choice such a surprise.
In addition to Pippa’s ’90s-inspired heels being outside of her normal footwear repertoire, they’re a little more au-courant than her typically classic style. The faux leather slides are open toe, feature a three-inch stiletto heel and they’re definitely more barely-there than her usual go-tos.
Another surprising facet of Pippa’s Stella McCartney shoes? They’re made with the environment in mind. The faux leather is crafted using solvent-free processes, which make them less taxing on the environment. Additionally, the fact that they’re faux leather instead of real leather means no animals were harmed in the making of them. McCartney has been using vegan leather since 2001 and doubled down on sustainability and lessening environmental impact in 2019.
Cute, trendy and easy on the environment? We’ll take two pairs, please.
