Piers Morgan donates £15,000 of his own money to charity after losing Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

Piers Morgan is apparently donating £15,000 of his own money to a charity supporting bereaved children of military personnel.
The Good Morning Britain presenter appeared on a celebrity episode of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, in which he hoped to win the top prize for charity Scotty’s Little Soldiers.
Unfortunately, Morgan ended up walking away with £1,000 after taking a gamble on an answer about Formula 1.
“I feel like I should go for it and if I get it wrong,” he told his longtime rival Jeremy Clarkson, after his friend and GMB co-host Susanna Reid was unable to help him via Phone a Friend.
“I will make up the difference. The charity will get the money, no matter what happens, whether it's from you, the show or me,” he continued.
”The charity is not going to lose. I just lose what's left of my reputation.“
Morgan pledged to donate £15,000, bringing the total donation to £16,000.
“You were brave to come on and I was brave to have you,” Clarkson told him.
The funds will help Scotty’s Little Soldiers to provide a year’s worth of support to 13 bereaved young people.
The charity was founded in 2010 by war widow Nikki Scott, one year after her husband, Corporal Lee Scott, was killed in action in Afghanistan.
It offers services including wellbeing care, support programmes, educational support, grants and respite breaks.
Morgan chose the charity as his brother, Jeremy, is a serving army colonel with four children.
Ms Scott told the Thetford and Brandon Times: “I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole show. We are so honoured that Piers chose to support Scotty’s and it’s incredible that he has said he will donate £15,000 of his own money to the charity, on top of the £1,000 that he has won.
”£16,000 will make a huge difference to us as a charity and to the children we support. We can’t thank him enough.”
