The Pierre Fabre Group Is Producing Hydroalcoholic Gels to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19

The fight against COVID-19 continues, and it's taking the entire world to help the cause. The latest beauty company to join in this endeavor is the Pierre Fabre Group. The parent company of brands including Klorane, Eau Thermale Avène, Glytone, and Rene Furterer announced Monday, March 30, that it plans to produce hydroalcoholic gels, aka hand sanitizer, for several countries to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

“The support of health care professionals is and always has been a fundamental part of the DNA of the Pierre Fabre Group," Jacqueline Flam, chief marketing officer of the Pierre Fabre Group, tells Allure via email. "During this crisis, it is critical that our company and the industry as a whole support the front line workers in the fight against this virus."

According to the same email sent to Allure, Pierre Fabre dermo-cosmetics staff members are fully mobilized to produce hydroalcoholic gel, and have been since the middle of the month — production has been in effect at 10 of the 11 plants the company owns since March 24.

The 70 percent alcohol-based hand sanitizers have been donated to hospitals in Castre, a region located in the South of France. This week the company plans to donate the rest of the 500,000 units of hydroalcoholic gels to other hospitals and make them available for purchase at French pharmacies. Two hundred thousand units will be sent to Brazil. The company also plans to start donating supplies to Spain, Italy, and Germany, the European countries most severely affected by COVID-19, and eventually the U.S. until June.

The Pierre Fabre Group joins the likes of LVMH, Coty, and Unilever, all of which are donating supplies and money to help those affected by COVID-19.

Hand sanitizer is the second-best line of defense against the virus, while washing hands regularly is the first. To use hand sanitizer properly, follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's three-step guideline: Apply product liberally, then rub your palms together and cover the entire surface of your hands. Continue rubbing until they are dry.

"Hand sanitizer is a product that has become an essential part of daily life and we will continue to do everything we can to ensure that there is more accessibility," adds Flam. "We are all in this together and Pierre Fabre will continue to do its part to react to opportunities to prevent the current situation from worsening.”
