Photos Taken One Year Apart Show Stark Difference In Ski Resort's Snowpack

The snow gods giveth, and the snow gods taketh. That's the way it is.

And this spring and early summer, at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, British Columbia, the snow gods seemed to be in more of a taketh mood. The resort uploaded photos yesterday showing the dramatic difference in snowpack between this season and last.

Spring temperatures are a fickle beast, either preserving or rapidly melting alpine snow. It looks like Kicking Horse experienced the latter this spring and early summer.

It's interesting to compare the resort's snowpack to mountains like Palisades Tahoe and Mammoth Mountain, two Californian ski areas still blanketed in the white stuff. Palisades Tahoe will close this upcoming long weekend, whereas Mammoth Mountain plans to remain open into July.

That's the beauty of skiing, though. If your resort gets blanked, there's always next season to look towards.
