Photos of the Palette That’s Been in the Works for 7 Years Have Just Been Released

With holiday party invitations coming in by the bushel, shopping lists growing by the day, and never-ending to-do lists everywhere we look, December is always a busier-than-usual month for all of us. And with two huge launches in the works, the same goes for Kat Von D, too, as the vegan and cruelty-free beauty brand gears up for the long-awaited release of the Alchemist palette and newly announced Pastel Goth eye shadow palette in the same month.

I know what you’re thinking, and you’re right—hundreds of these palettes come across our desks on the regular, so why are these any different? Well, for starters, the tattoo artist made makeup maven has been working on the Alchemist palette, a holographic collection of pigments inspired by the science of alchemy and iridescence, for seven years with a release date of December 24, 2016 at Sephora (only 15 days left!) without any major sneak peeks. As for the Pastel Goth palette, anyone who knows the brand and the face behind it knows that pastel hues don’t usually—or ever—come up the pipeline within its launches or collections. But, with the new subsection of the grunge scene (marrying traditional components of the trend like dark colors, studs, etc. with feminine, pastel spins) comes a craze even Kat Von D herself can get behind, releasing the launch today on her Instagram with her caption reading, "Not sure y'all are ready for this, but I suggest you PREPARE YOURSELF…for the eye shadow palette you thought I'd never make!"

As if that wasn’t enough, Kat Von D’s global makeup artist, Erik Soto, has finally been releasing insider photos of Alchemist for the first time. Before the images were shared on his Instagram, all we knew about the coveted palette was that it included iridescent powders in different hues (Emerald, Saphyre, Amethyst and Opal) that shift colors depending on the way light hits each one. Even better, Kat Von D also released swatches of each shade on three skin tones, too. We were hooked after just hearing about what the palette could do on both the eyes and lips (or pretty much anywhere you choose to apply the pigments), but after seeing the below sneak peeks of the shadows in action, December 24 can’t come soon enough.
