Before and After Photos of Lahaina Following the Devastating Maui Wildfires

The Maui wildfires have been absolutely devastating.

According to reports, the death toll has surpassed 100, and there’s still an estimated 1,000 people missing. It’s even received the unfortunate distinction as the worst natural disaster in Hawaii’s history, and the deadliest U.S. wildfire in over a century.

The complete and total devastation is just mind-boggling.

One of the areas hit the hardest by the fires was the historic (and former Hawaiian capital) city of Lahaina. Nearly everything was lost, burned to the ground. And the aerial photos above show just how bad the damage was with a before and after comparison.

Captioning the post, History Photographed wrote:

“Hawaiian officials are prepared for a rise in the death toll from the deadliest U.S. wildfire in more than a century.

“At least 99 people were confirmed to have died as of Monday, and recovery crews with cadaver dogs continue to work their way through hundreds of homes and burned-out vehicles in Lahaina, the historic coastal town on the island of Maui.

“These before and after pictures show the extent of the devastation in Lahaina.”

We’ve been covering the Maui wildfires a lot recently – like Kai Lenny committing to not stopping his relief efforts until everyone is home, to Matthew and Levi McConaughey urging people to support, to Kai Lenny’s frustration with the lack of government help, to John John Florence donating proceeds from his brand Florence x Marine, to Kelly Slater comparing the wildfires to Hurricane Katrina, to Jason Mamoa warning tourists not to travel to Maui, to Kelly Slater discussing the tragedy to TMZ.

For more information on how to help Maui, and to donate support, check out even more of our coverage of the catastrophe and relief efforts here, here, and here.

Anything helps; they could really use the support right now.
