The search for famed photographer Peter Beard continues this week after he was reported missing from his Montauk home late Tuesday evening. Beard, who is said to have dementia, left his house on Old Montauk Highway, east of Deep Hollow Ranch at around 4:40 p.m., according to the East Hampton Police Department.

An alert from the East Hampton Town Police Department says that Beard, 82, is a "vulnerable adult" and that he "may be in need of medical attention."

The search for Beard, which began Tuesday night with patrol units and fire department volunteers, has escalated and now includes a helicopter, K-9 units, state parks police, and a drone searching the area. He was last seen wearing a blue pullover fleece, black jogging pants, and blue sneakers.

According to his website, Beard lives with his wife, Nejma, and his daughter, Zara.

Beard is a world-renowned visual artist who's perhaps best known for his pictures of Africa and his portraits of celebrity friends including Truman Capote, Jackie Onassis, and Mick Jagger. The late Lee Radziwill, with whom he was romantically involved, told T&C in 2016, "There's nobody like Peter. He's full of enthusiasm, laughter, and soul, with beautiful manners. I think he has a split personality: He can walk through Lake Rudolf in Africa and then—well, he came to my book party in April looking better than anybody else."
