The NBA season is nearly over, however, there's plenty to look forward to this offseason with a stacked draft lineup, a busy rumor mill surrounding trades and various star players hitting the free agency soon. Adding to the chaos, NBA insider Chris Haynes has reported that the Phoenix Suns have notified veteran guard Chris Paul that he will be waived.

The news follows a second round exit for a Suns team that was left without Paul due to a groin injury in game two. With Paul, the Suns were able to reach the NBA Finals for the first time in 28 years back in 2021, leading to Paul signing a four-year contract extension worth $120 million USD. This most recent season, ownership transferred to Mat Ishbia and Kevin Durant was added to the squad in a hefty trade package. Moving forward, the Suns have made it clear that Paul is not a part of the organization's plans, going so far as to waiving him and taking on the cost of prematurely ending the contract rather than shopping for a suitable trade.

Paul's next steps are to be determined, however, Haynes has reported that Paul plans to play for several more years as he continues his chase for a ring.
