Some spaces feel like an exhale. It’s achieved with softly draped linens, textured ceramics, earthy tones—or in Lidia Salazar’s case, all of the above.

The content creator shares snippets of her home online, each vignette carefully curated for moments of calm.

Pulling from her Puerto Rican and Mexican roots, the Phoenix, Arizona home embraces each country’s ancient crafts with a modern spin.

Floral terracotta vases are set alongside brass figurines at the entryway, dreamy Oaxacan textiles drape over a midcentury modern dining table, and incense billows wisps of smoke over a hygge living room.

Still, the home—which Salazar shares with her husband and rescue dog, Zoey—is clearly seeded and sprouted from Phoenix.

The city's desert landscape is painted across the space: sunset hues swath over the kitchen accessories, dry pottery is left unglazed for a sandy finish, and sweeping arches in the architecture emulate the curves of sandstone rock formations found across the state.

Ahead, Salazar shares more about where she sources home inspiration, how she caters to all the senses (including with music), and her favorite secondhand finds.

How did you first discover your space? What about it appealed to you?

I was absolutely drawn to the natural light and the high ceilings in the home. Although it's a 1980s home and a bit outdated, I knew it still had potential!

Describe the surrounding neighborhood—does your home fit in with the local style or does it stand out?

Our neighborhood is fairly quiet—most neighbors keep to themselves.

How would you describe your style and approach to decorating your home?

My style is definitely a bit eclectic. I try to balance modern and traditional, all while infusing cultural elements into it. I’m a very proud Latina who embraces her roots and I want that to be reflected in my home.

Who or what are your biggest design inspirations?

Beauty and inspiration can be found everywhere. I find inspiration at restaurants, new cities, boutique hotels, and of course, Instagram.

I may be biased but I’m also incredibly inspired by so many lovely cities in Latin America.

How do your Mexican and Puerto Rican heritages inform your style? What elements from them do you incorporate in your home?

As a first-generation Latina, I love to showcase my culture in ways that feel authentically me. I love to bring in art, textiles, ceramics, and books that celebrate Mexico and Puerto Rico.

These pieces make it easy to visually incorporate my culture into my more modern aesthetic. I’m also a huge fan of music and love playing all different genres of Latin music from my vinyl collection in my home.

Any other cultures you take design notes from?

Absolutely! I love the curves and intricacy of Mediterranean architecture and design, the charm of European homes, and the simplicity of Danish design—all very different styles but equally beautiful and inspiring.

What were the greatest finds in your home? Can you share a story behind any of them?

I’ve been lucky enough to find some amazing secondhand books that share the beauty of Mexico and Puerto Rico. Many of these books are out of print so I treasure them even more.

My most favorite piece is a handmade clay vase crafted by an incredible artisan, Paty Gaytan, in Oaxaca, Mexico. This vase is made with so much attention to detail and it’s definitely a work of art.

Do you have a favorite design feature or room? If so, where is it in the house and what makes it unique?

My favorite design feature is my entryway. It’s the perfect blend of modern and vintage all while showcasing my culture. I enjoy adding a seasonal touch to it to keep it fresh throughout the year!

Where in your home do you spend the most time and what are you usually doing there?

I spend most of my free time in the family room snuggling with my dog, listening to my vinyl records, or watching TV with my husband.
