Phoenix is getting new nonstops to this Pacific Northwest city. Here's when they start

Arizonans will have an extra opportunity to fly to the Pacific Northwest this year.

Alaska Airlines is adding more than 20 new daily departures out of Portland, Oregon, in October 2024, including increasing its number of nonstop flights to and from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to four times daily.

Right now, Alaska offers three nonstop flights per day between Phoenix and Portland. Alaska has been Portland International Airport’s largest carrier for more than two decades.

It’s not the first time that flight capacity from metro Phoenix to the Rose City expanded in recent years. Allegiant Air launched service to Portland from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in November 2023.

When will Alaska Airlines’ new Phoenix-Portland flights start?

Alaska Airlines will increase its nonstop service between Phoenix and Portland to four flights per day starting Oct. 1.

The new flight will be in the midafternoon, around 3 p.m. Alaska's other nonstops to Portland are scheduled around 7 a.m., 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. The airline also offers connecting flights from Phoenix to Portland.

Fares for the route in October start at $134 one way and can be booked now at alaskaair.com.

Why is Alaska Airlines expanding?

Alaska Airlines, which was founded in 1932 as McGee Airways and launched service from Sky Harbor in 1985, said it's increasing the frequency of flights from Portland to several cities to offer more choice and convenience for flyers.

“It’s important for us to provide our guests with a variety of convenient flight options at (Portland) along with the addition of new routes. We know travelers have a choice and we want them to fly with us,” Kirsten Amrine, vice president of revenue management and network planning for Alaska Airlines, said in a statement.

Alaska Airlines also flies nonstop between Phoenix and Anchorage, Alaska; Boise, Idaho; Everett, Washington; and its home base of Seattle.

What other airlines fly between Phoenix and Portland?

Alaska Airlines is one of four airlines that offer nonstop flights to Portland from Sky Harbor Airport. The others are American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Frontier Airlines.

Allegiant Air began flying nonstop to Portland via Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in east Mesa in November 2023.
