Regé-Jean Page shocked Bridgerton fans last month, when he announced he would not appear in the show's second season. Now, Phoebe Dynevor aka Daphne Bridgerton is finally commenting on this loss. It seems that the news surprised everyone but Dynevor.

"I had a bit of a heads up, so I knew," Dynevor said during this week's Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, per ET. "But yeah, I guess it is a spanner. But again, the show centers around the Bridgertons and there are eight books. And I think maybe the fans of the books were more aware of that happening than the fans of the show. I think the fans of the books know that every episode is about a different sibling."

Last month, Page gave Variety similar reasoning, stating that it was important that the show moved on to focus on new characters. He noted that the "short-term commitment" of Bridgerton specifically appealed to him.

“It’s a one-season arc. It’s going to have a beginning, middle, end—give us a year,” Page said. “[I thought] ‘That’s interesting,’ because then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit and then the Bridgerton family rolls on.”

Dynevor also shared some new tidbits about the show's second season, which, as per Julia Quinn's book series, will focus on Anthony Bridgerton, Daphne's older brother.

"We're very much passing on the baton to the lovely Jonathan [Bailey], who plays Anthony. And that will be the main storyline of season 2 and the story arc of season 2" Dynevor said. "We were all aware of that. Obviously, it's sad to see [Page] go but I'm looking forward to being reunited with my family."

While the show's central character will change, it seems like Dynevor and fans alike will miss Daphne and Simon's love story. Dynevor reminisced on some of her and Page's central moments in the first season.

"I remember shooting the last scene in episode one where Regé and I have, like, our first dance together. And I remember thinking, 'Wow, this feels kind of special,'" Dynevor recalled. "There were, like, fireworks going off behind us and it was, like, really romantic music. It felt like a really special moment, but you never know if it's going to come out on camera and the audience is going to feel that buzz, too. It's hard to tell."

While fans may be disappointed, there certainly will be much to look forward to in Bridgerton's second season. As Bailey told ET, "It’s just going to get more exciting and convoluted and sexier, I think," the actor said, adding the series will surely "be pushing boundaries every single way."
