Nike co-founder Phil Knight made an appearance on “Good Morning America” today to discuss his candid tell-all, “Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike.”

While on the air, Knight opted for Nike’s Air Max sneakers — telling host Robin Roberts that they were his dress shoes. When it comes to his favorite Nikes, the 78-year-old industry icon revealed that brand’s 1983 Pegasus were his go-to.

“The shoes have been in the line for 43 years, and that’s what I wear to run in today, although much slower,” he said.

Knight’s book, released today, follows his journey from being a runner at the University of Oregon to his desire to find a career that would allow him to “play all the time, instead of working — or else to enjoy work so much that it becomes essentially the same thing.”

On his journey to creating Nike, Knight said, “I feel sorry for the people that know exactly what they’re going to do from the time they are sophomores in high school. I think the process really needs to go through a time period before you really find what it is.”

Knight, who recently announced he would donate most of his $25 billion net worth to charity, added, “If you’re going to be an entrepreneur, you better be prepared for long nights and a lot of dark moments. You really have to have a passion about it and you have to have a reason to succeed.”
