Pharrell Williams Dressed Down for the Fancy Oscars Nominee Luncheon

Pharrell Williams has never been one to follow the pack when it comes to fashion. Whether he’s tying the knot in a plaid suit or serving Smokey the Bear realness, the producer and tastemaker wears whatever he wants, whenever he wants — and always manages to somehow still dress for the occasion.

Williams continued this tradition during the 89th Academy Awards luncheon, rocking a NASA sweatshirt, presumably a nod to Hidden Figures, of which he was producer and co-composer. The luncheon’s full-attendee photo shows plenty of men dressed in suits, making Williams (as well as the rare woman, btw) stand out quite a bit.

Williams finished his look with a green baseball cap, ripped jeans, and beige boots. Let’s just say it’s an outfit we don’t think he would be too upset about spilling a post-lunch espresso on.

But he’s not the first celeb to opt for a casual look at a more dressed-up affair. Kanye West famously attended the 2016 Met Gala in a pair of ripped jeans, which he wore with a white T-shirt and heavily embellished Balmain denim jacket. And while promoting Transylvania 2 last July, an image of a glammed-up Selena Gomez standing in between the rather sloppily dressed Adam Sandler and Kevin James made the rounds online, which some felt confirmed a sexist double standard for how Hollywood actors and actresses are to appear.

But as for male style mavens like West and Williams, even when they do dress down, they still manage to look extra fresh.
