Peter Dundas Shares How to Look Effortlessly Sexy With His Line of Beauty Products That Deliver a Back-From-Vacation Glow

Peter Dundas has a knack for night-out looks — his fashions defined Y2K-era rock-glam with their sexy, high-glamour aesthetic and a touch of naughtiness. So when we heard rumblings about the fashion designer’s beauty line debut, we expected colorful, flashy pigments for sultry eyes and sexy lips. Dundas Beauty’s February 2024 launch surprised us with the polar opposite: A capsule collection of makeup essentials for fresh, glowing skin — nary a smokey eye in sight.

More from WWD

Dundas Beauty launched with five hero products, all designed to be gender-inclusive and effortless for everyday wear. Together with his life and business partner Evangelo Bousis and Anastasia Beverly Hills’ founder Anastasia Soare, Dundas cooked up his line to create exactly what you need for a fresh, minimal makeup look that enhances natural beauty without overpowering it. “I try to make people look good so that they feel more confident,” Dundas tells WWD. “Because I think when you’re looking good, when you feel desirable, you feel better about yourself — and that’s what we wanted to do with the beauty line as well.”

Throughout his career, Dundas held positions at the likes of Emilio Pucci, Roberto Cavalli, and Jean Paul Gaultier, where he dressed muses Kim Kardashian, Beyoncé, and Naomi Campbell. In 2017, he debuted his eponymous line in iconic fashion, with long-time ‘Dundas girl’ Beyoncé wearing three Peter Dundas looks to the Grammy Awards that year. His signature style is punctuated by body-skimming silhouettes, plunging necklines, and glamorous patterns, and on runways, those sexy fashions were often teamed with pared-back makeup looks — a direct source of inspiration for Dundas Beauty. “I always want makeup to look really natural because even though I think of my clothes as quite simple in their shapes, I do a lot of color and embellishments,” Dundas says. “And so the makeup can never be too much — I think that part of being glamorous is effortlessness.”

This minimalist, no-makeup makeup aesthetic feels of-the-moment for today’s preferences, where skin is in. “For this drop, we wanted it to be friendly for all genders to wear on-the-go,” Dundas adds. It’s catered to the jet-set lifestyle, where you want to look fresh fast. “Heavy makeup is out,” Dundas says. “Fresh, healthy, back-from-vacation skin is in.” Rather than fussy full-coverage foundation, Dundas Beauty offers up a creamy concealer with a skin-mimicking finish. Instead of highlighter, there’s a tinted moisturizer that transforms to your skin tone upon application, leaving you with dewy cheeks. As for eyes, Dundas Beauty offers up a double-ended eyeliner that takes you from day to night.

Our editors have been testing the full Dundas Beauty line for the past month, and the verdict is in: This line is spot-on for spring and summer, when you want to look healthy and fresh without a ton of heavy makeup. “This one was the hardest to get just perfect,” Bousis says. “We went through all these concealers that become cakey and because we kind of attacked it from the angle of ourselves, meaning a man’s skin, we thought if we can get a guy to wear it, we’ve scored.” To do just that, Dundas and Bousis ensured that the Undercover Enhancer Concealer delivers a wallop of moisture, allowing minimalists to apply it on bare skin sans moisturizer. A limited ingredient list includes brightening mica plus emollient waxes for buildable, breathable coverage.

Editor testing and review notes: “This is everything a concealer should be: It’s lightweight but super creamy. I love that I don’t have to use a brush or makeup sponge to blend it in, thanks to how sheer and buildable the formula is. It brightens and smooths my skin in one fell swoop.”

With Dundas Beauty’s Bronzer Anonymous, you get the warmth and radiance of a great bronzer with the added benefit of easy application. “All my girlfriends who do the no-makeup makeup look are addicted to this,” Dundas says. “You don’t have to blend it too heavily, and it’s so good and sheer.” The bronzer is offered in an impressive range of six shades, giving any skin tone the ability to use the formula for a kiss of warmth and definition.

Editor testing and review notes: “Leave it to Dundas and Bousis to create a gorgeous matte bronzer that imparts a natural, sun-kissed look — the pair looked positively bronzed when I interviewed them via Zoom. This formula is super finely-milled, which deposits perfectly for an airbrushed effect without splotches.”

Looking for a shortcut to a sun-kissed look? Dundas Beauty’s Hydratan Tinted Moisturizer is your first-class ticket. Dundas and Bousis developed it to eliminate the need to shade match to your skin tone, instead formulating the moisturizer with pigments that adjust to the skin as you massage it onto your complexion. “We worked really hard to make sure it didn’t become orange and to get you a glowy, slightly bronzed look,” Bousis says. Caffeine in the formula helps to depuff, while vitamin C helps brighten skin in the long run.

Editor testing and review notes: “I have fair skin, so I’m always looking for ways to give myself a little radiance and warmth. Dundas Beauty’s Hydratan tinted moisturizer has become my go-to when I’m due for vitamin D — I love that it slightly warms up my skin without creating a line of demarcation. It’s easy to blend and so comfortable to wear.”

“I love juicy lips, but I’m not into lip gloss — we wanted to make something for every gender,” Bousis explains. The result? Dundas Beauty’s Pumped Lip Moisture balm, which has a bare pink tone that reads “your lips, but better.” This top lip balm delivers a slight tingling sensation, but primarily plumps the lips with emollient waxes and lip-softening ingredients. It’s designed to wear on bare lips or layered over lip liner or your best lipsticks.

Editor testing and review notes: “My lips are sensitive to many lip plumpers, so I love how mild and moisturizing this formula is. I feel a slight tingle when I apply it — it’s spicy, but doesn’t burn. The soft pink looks natural and the finish is juicy but not too shiny, making it a dream to layer on throughout the day.”

“Black eyeliner is a little rock and roll — I love it on both boys and girls,” Bousis says. “On my mood boards, I always have both men and women, so there’s some Keith Richards or Mick Jagger or David Bowie. They’re important fashion icons and they’re so inspiring even for the women’s wear as well.” That notion, plus the day-to-night vision of the line, landed this double-ended eyeliner in Dundas Beauty’s debut collection. Dundas and Bousis love the white liner applied on the waterline to make the eye pop, where the inky black pigment delivers drama for a night out: “All you need to look sexy is sheer black stockings and black eyeliner,” according to Dundas.

Editor testing and review notes: “First things first, this eyeliner has a gorgeous texture. It delivers major glide with plenty of play time to smudge and blend the pigments before it sets in. The pure white shade is amazing on the waterline, but I also diffuse it in the inner corner of my eye for instant brightness. The black shade creates a sharp, smooth line for definition, too.”
