The Fall Out Boy bassist and 'Pieces of Me' singer were married for three years before they divorced nearly a decade ago.

Pete Wentz opened up about what it was like going through his divorce from Ashlee Simpson in 2011, at the same time that his band, Fall Out Boy, was on an indefinite hiatus.

In an interview with Nylon for the newest issue, Wentz touched on the end of his relationship with Simpson, saying, "My life was just like… a bomb had gone off in it."

At the time, everything in his life was changing, forcing him to reevaluate what he was doing and what he wanted to do. "You’ve atrophied all of these life skills. I was like, ‘Oh. You have to figure out how to be happy as an adult,’” he explained.

At the beginning of his relationship with Simpson, Fall Out Boy was experiencing extreme success.

Wentz described that period of his career, "When we first went on TRL, there were two years where we were super famous, almost like One Direction-level. You couldn’t go anywhere or do anything. The transition just happens, so there’s not even anything you think about with it, because there is no time."

Now, Wentz is in a different place regarding both his relationship and his career.

The bassist and his ex-wife, Simpson, are successful co-parents of their son Bronx, 14, while both have moved on and have other kids with their current partners.

Simpson is married to Evan Ross, and the two share Jagger, 7, and Ziggy, 2, while Wentz has Saint, 8, and Marvel, 4, with his longtime partner, Meagan Camper.

Wentz recently went through a similar period of self-reflection, telling himself, "Life is so short, and it’s so long, that maybe you should try crazy shit because it will break you out of the feeling of nihilism.”

The 43-year-old is celebrating the release of Fall Out Boy's new album, So Much (for) Stardust, which came out on March 24, over five years since the 2018 release of the group's last studio album, Mania.
