Happy Mother's Day! I'm here with my favorite moms — my real mom, Amy, and my new TV mom, Edie Falco, who stars with me on our new series Bupkis, only on Peacock.

Amy: I’m so happy you’re playing me [in Bupkis], Edie. I loved you in Nurse Jackie. You know, I’m also a nurse.

Pete: She remembers, Mom. You tell her that every time you see her.

Edie: I don’t mind that you repeat it. It’s taught me a lot about your character.

Amy: See Peter? I’m friends with Nurse Jackie!

Edie: You can just call me Edie.

Pete: Mother’s Day is an important holiday in my household. We’re a close family, and growing up, my sister and I always tried to make things special, although I wasn’t always good at it. I’m pretty sure I bought her the same Britney Spears perfume eight years in a row.

Amy: I never wore it, but I always appreciated it. Pete and his sister, Casey, have done a lot for me over the years. As children, they would always wake me up with breakfast in bed.

Pete: Despite what you may think, we have good culinary talent in Staten Island. It’s not just veal parm and margherita pizzas.

Amy: One Mother’s Day, Pete outdid himself and made me an entire croquembouche. It was unimaginable, like something out of an exotic French bakery! A beautiful tower of cream puffs drizzled with chocolate caramel! It was mind-blowing and how I knew my little boy had something special, if this was what he could pull off when he focused his love and energy.

... a.k.a. A Towering Pile of Balls

Ingredients:

4 boxes Dunkin’ Donuts Munchkins (assorted)

Directions:

1. Leave boxes on a counter in direct sunlight for several hours.

2. Once you remember they’re there, after eating as many as you feel like, dump the rest of the Munchkins into a bowl so they form a pile that will coincidentally resemble a croquembouche.

Very Important: Do not skip the “leaving the donut holes on a counter in direct sunlight for several hours” step. That’s how you get the Munchkins to sweat out a beautiful drizzle pattern.

Amy: And now a recipe from me: Pete’s favorite onion rice dish. I make it every Mother’s Day.

Edie: You cook for your kids on Mother’s Day?

Amy: Of course — it’s a special occasion.

Edie: Wow, you are generous. I’m learning something again.

Edie: Well, Amy, what do you do on Mother’s Day now?

Amy: Usually Pete’s laundry.

Edie: Wow. Pete, do you have something nice to say about your mom that doesn’t involve her doing manual labor?

Pete: When I was younger, I bought the uncensored Eminem Show CD, which of course I wasn’t allowed to have, so I kept it in a Rod Stewart jewel case. My mom noticed, and for years she’d play Rod Stewart to have something we could bond over. I’d be sitting in the car and suddenly she’d say “It’s Rod!” and start singing along to “Maggie May.” I had to learn the songs just to keep the lie going. I kinda learned to like Rod Stewart.

Edie: One Mother’s Day when my kids were very little, they decided to have my breakfast waiting for me when I came downstairs in the morning. It was dinosaur oatmeal, the kind you rip open and add hot water to, and my coffee. Now, they were little, so they didn’t know I didn’t take sugar in my coffee. And they also didn’t quite know the difference between the salt and the sugar, so it wasn’t the best cup of coffee I ever tasted, but they won some serious points for adorableness.

Amy: My favorite Mother’s Day gift that I’ve ever received was simple and straight from the heart, and it didn’t even cost my kids anything. It was getting to appear on the Mother’s Day episode of Saturday Night Live every year from 2014 to 2022.

Edie: That does sound nice.

Amy: I got to meet Benedict Cumberbatch! And Jack White! We talked for over an hour. We’re friends now.

Pete: No, you’re not. And that wasn’t Jack White.

Amy: Really? Then who did I go to mini golf with?

Pete: Happy Mother’s Day to everyone out there filling the role of Mom. Whatever amount of credit you’re getting, it’s not enough. We love you. Don’t forget to watch Bupkis! Streaming May 4 on Peacock.
