Pet Deer All Dressed Up for Christmas Has People Talking

With Christmas and the new year just around the corner, there's never been a better time to dress up and start feeling festive. 'Tis the season to be jolly, after all! Whether you're preparing for an office holiday party or are just enjoying a movie night at home, there's no wrong occasion to bust out that holiday sweater.

In fact, even pets are getting into the Christmas spirit! There are at least a dozen ways that cats and dogs can be included in the festivities, from baking pet-friendly cookies to posing for holiday photos. It's certainly not unusual to see a dog included in someone's Christmas card, but you'd never expect to see a deer getting dressed up for the special occasion!

Sure enough, one TikTok-famous pet deer is getting in on the holiday vibes with the perfect accessories. Popcorn the 'wood dog' (AKA deer) is absolutely precious in her outfit in the December 5 video, and it's got everyone thinking about their own holiday garb.

OMG! It took quite a while for me to get over the initial shock of seeing an actual deer casually standing in someone's home, but Popcorn is totally used to it. She's often inside her owner's house and is regularly dressed up in cute hats and accessories, just like any other pet. If you asked her, she may not even know she's a deer!

But in fact, she's a mule deer who found the perfect human to call her own. Her dad describes himself as a 'wood dog whisperer,' and judging by his videos, he's absolutely right. His pet deer is as chill and gentle as can be, and she happily tolerates being dressed up for a number of occasions. Actually, all of her TikTok videos are just her vying in cute outfits, and they're perfect as is!

Deer as Pets: Is it Ethical?

While the feedback and comments on @popcornthewooddog's videos are vastly positive, the ethicality--and legality--of keeping deer as pets is worth discussing. Clearly, this wild animal is living a great life with her new human dad, but an uneducated deer owner could potentially put their pet's life at risk without even knowing.

For the most part, it's illegal and a bad idea to keep deer as pets. While each state has its own exotic pet regulations, the majority of states either require a special permit or outlaw the keeping of wild deer altogether. Of course, many animal rescue organizations end up caring for deer in captivity when they can't be released into the wild, but this isn't something a normal person should try.

If you take a look at Popcorn's dad's TikTok account, you'll see that he has the necessary license in his state. I love a responsible pet owner, don't you? Cheers to more adorable videos from this fun and festive pet!
