According to NBC Philadelphia, The alligator was found  by Antietam Creek in Exeter Township, Pennsylvania. The landscapers called the Exeter Police Department who then contacted the animal protection team. An Animal Protections Officer took the alligator to The Venom Institute to be evaluated, according to officials. The alligator's owner arrived at The Venom Institute to claim their pet who they named "Fluffy."

According to the owner, Fluffy escaped during last month's flash flooding. I'm not sure if an alligator can be microchipped, but it's probably a good idea for Fluffy's owner to check with their veterinarian.

If you are wondering if this is the first time an alligator has shown up in Pennsylvania, In April, an 8-foot alligator named Big Mack was rescued from a North Philadelphia row home by ACCT Philly. According to Pennlive, twenty alligators have been found in Pennsylvania since 2000.

Owning an alligator as a pet isn't in illegal in Pennsylvania, but wildlife experts say that keeping an alligator isn't the best idea. Too many of these beautiful creatures end up being abandoned when their owners realize they are getting too big and they no longer wish to care for them.

We are just happy that Fluffy is home safe and sound now.
